Established in 2020 November, EcoCastle is incorporated with the prime objective of undertaking activities and projects, to pursue environmental agenda especially awareness among the young generation, inspiring and mentoring them to take effective actions to preserve our planet earth, in relating to the conservation of marine ecosystem.

What is TAME Center

  • The Tanjung Aru Marine Ecosystem Center, also known as the TAME Center, was named with the intention of not "taming" nature, but rather "taming" pollutants such as the plastic monster, as well as "taming" humans to become more environmentally conscious.
  • The center is strategically located at the old premises of Telekom Malaysia in Tanjung Aru, and can be found in front of either the Kinabalu Golf Club or the Kinabalu Yacht Club.
  • The TAME Center has five main pillars: Marine, Wildlife, Recycling and Upcycling, Heritage, and Green Tech.

• Founder and CEO of EcoCastle Sdn Bhd & Tanjung Aru Marine Ecosystem Center 

  • Marine biologist, with a wide array of building, cultivation, research, harvesting and consultation in seaweed cultivation and research.
  • Renown upcycle artist who has accomplished a long list of outstanding upcycle artistic masterpieces over the past 8 years, such as recent Wonders of Wilderness – The Ocean

TAME’s Educational Tour

Introduction to plastic and glass recycling

  • at Happy Plastic Borneo and Project Carlsbot, to understand the process of the recycling and upcycling process in the recycling hub.

Volunteering program

  • Objective: Encourage volunteering and community volunteerism
  • Duration of time: Minimum 2 hours
  • Remarks:
    ‣ Wear casual comfortable cloth, and shoes.
    ‣ Bring your own drinking water and snacks.

Happy Plastic Borneo

  • Objective: Understand the process of recycling plastic type 2 and 4 at the Mobile Recycling Center
  • Job scope: Cleaning plastic container (Type 2 and 4), removing labels and shredding plastic into small pallets
  • Time: Thursday to Saturday only

Carlsbot

  • Objective: Understanding glass recycling process in the very first glass recycling hub in Malaysia
  • Job scope: Sorting glass and non glass, removing plastic or metal cap from glass bottles or jars, sieving crushed glass
  • Time: Thursday to Saturday only

Hydroponic green farm

  • Objective: Understand hydroponic operation and its maintenance
  • Job scope: Transfer seedlings to designated area, water parameter monitoring, vegetable health check and removal of any pest such as caterpillar.
  • Time: Monday to Saturday

Internship

Internship program subjected to changes, depending on number of interns, duration of internship, personal skills and ability.

Work scopes :
‣ Insect farming – feeding, cleaning, sorting and monitoring health.
‣ Tour guiding – assist coordinator in tour interpretation.
‣ Recycling and upcycling – assist in collection, explanation and operation in Happy Plastic Borneo, Project Carlsbot and Nespresso Collection Hub, even can work together to innovate new upcycled products.
‣ Social media – create contents for social media.
‣ Green farm – hydroponic, urban farming and composting.
‣ Outreach program – assist coordinator in any outreach program to schools, educational center etc.

Traditional games – “Congkak”

  • Facilitator: Michael Yap or Japson Wong
  • Minimum 2 persons, maximum 10 persons (5 sets available) 
  • For 30 – 45 minutes
  • Southeast Asian mancalas – traditionally used cowries shells as seeds in the game
  • This game regarded as useful for developing certain mathematical principals

Reef Stake Card Game

  • Facilitator: Michael Yap (Sabah distributor)
  • Malaysia developed role playing marine card game
  • 4 – 6 players per game (30-45 minutes)
  • Understanding relationship between development and nature, thus dynamic between resource management and conservation
  • Ready stock for sale

Upcycled Capsule Insects Workshop

  • Facilitator: Japson Wong (JF Production)
  • Duration: 60 minutes
  • 20 -30 person per session
  • Suitable for 7 years and above

Upcycled note holder

  • Facilitator: Marjorie (Carlsbot)
  • Duration: 60 minutes
  • DIY note holder, made from wire, cement with glass sand (crushed glass)
  • 10 – 20 people per session
  • Suitable for 7 years old and above

Paper Quilling Workshop

  • Facilitator: Billy Tan
  • Duration: 1-2 hours (depend on artwork)
  • Maximum 20 pax per session

Excursion Tour 01
– KK Wetland Centre

  • Smallest RAMSAR site in Malaysia, first urban wetland
  • Tour interpreter: Michael Yap
  • Duration: 1.5 hours
  • Exploring mangrove forest and observing its wildlife, understand mangrove and its importance

Excursion Tour 02
– Marine Aquarium, UMS

  • Tour interpreter: Michael Yap
  • Duration: 1.5 hours
  • Exploring marine specimens, understand marine ecosystem and its importance, observing marine creature such as fish, turtle and shark etc

Excursion Tour 03
– Ara Dinawan Island

  • Tour interpreter: Michael Yap
  • Time 7.00am – 5.00pm (subjected to tide)
  • Inclusive boat transfer (Beringgis jetty), BBQ lunch, 1 boat snorkeling and marine awareness talk
